Scarborough's ILB was called out by Humber Coastguardto assist the small cabin cruiser ‘Verdina’ with 3 people on board which had broken down  about half a mile out to sea from the castle headland. Communication with the casualty was difficult as they had a fault on their radio making their radio transmissions virtually unintelligible. Our crew soon had the casualty located and when they arrived alongside  a crew member was put onboard the ‘Verdina’ and a tow was established. Our present inshore lifeboat has a larger engine than its predecessor and on this occasion it proved to be very useful as the sea was quite rough so this extra power enabled the lifeboat to cope well and bring the casualty back into the safety of Scarborough Harbour.
