Another inflatable rescued by Scarborough’s RNLI Inshore lifeboat crew
Scarborough inshore lifeboat was paged at 4.44pm on 28 March 2012 at the request of Humber Coastguard to assist the occupants of an inflatable dinghy reported in difficulty in Scarborough South Bay
For the second time in a month Scarborough’s RNLI inshore lifeboat ‘John Wesley Hillard iii’ was called out to assist people in difficulty in inflatable dinghies.
At 4.44pm on 28 March 2012 Humber Coastguard requested the launch of Scarborough’s inshore lifeboat. They had received a call from a member of the public reporting an inflatable dinghy in difficulty in Scarborough’s South Bay.
The inshore lifeboat launched quickly and very soon was with the casualty which was about half a mile from the shore. In it they found four men who were unable to get themselves back to shore. A tow was established and the dinghy and its occupants were brought back to the beach.
A message to all parents with the holiday period approaching:
Inflatables can be dangerous particularly when the wind is blowing from the shore out to sea a rope held by you with the other end attached to the inflatable will prevent it and the occupants being blown away. Last summer in Scarborough’s South Bay a young girl was blown out to sea and the wind then overturned the inflatable plunging her into the sea. Fortunately due to the diligence of the RNLI lifeguards who were on duty she was speedily rescued and brought back to the safety of the beach.
