All of the people who work in the fundraising branches and guilds are volunteers and each year the RNLI holds an awards ceremony where awards are presented to the volunteers for long service.
This year Brenda Horton who is the secretary of the Scarborough Station Support Group was presented with the silver badge for her work by Alison Saunders the Deputy Chairman of the RNLI at a ceremony which was held on 3 July 2006 at York Racecourse
Brenda has been very ill over the past few years but this has not deterred her efforts. Many people faced with the problems that she has would have stood down but Brenda continues!! She is well supported by her husband Eric and also Russell. Below are photographs of Brenda, the Badge & Russell.
Congratulations Brenda on a "Good job well done".

An invitation was received inviting all present and past crew members of Scarborough Lifeboat Station to a buffet to be held at the Leeds Arms on Thursday 7 August 2003 this was at the behest of the late Jos Moss who had been a supporter of Scarborough Lifeboat Station.

Joshua "Jos" Moss 1920- 2002
Jos was born in Scarborough in 1920 and lived all of his life in Scarborough except for 6 years when he served his Country in the Royal Navy during the 2nd World War. He was a Joiner by trade and in his spare time was a keen supporter of Scarborough football Club. In 1954 He helped in the search for the Lifeboatmen who were lost in the tragedy.

Jos was secretary of the R.N.P.S for many years and was also their Standard Bearer. The photo above shows him on duty at the Remembrance Sunday Parade.
Thanks Jos for thinking about Scarborough Lifeboat Station.

Saturday 26th April was a special day for the Federation of Railway Clubs Eastern who were holding their annual conference at the Crown Hotel here in Scarborough. In the evening they held their Dinner Dance and they invited two of the members of the Scarborough Lifeboat team to attend.
Kevin Debenham (Station Mechanic) and John Porter (Deputy Head Launcher) attended and enjoyed excellent hospitality.
During the evening the "special event" took place this was a SUPER GRAND RAFFLE with more than 40 prizes most of which had been donated by the members. In less than one hour they had raised the fantastic sum of £1104.00. Not only had the members donated the prizes but when they won them they donated them back!!!!! and then bid for them in an auction this included the STAR PRIZE!!!!!!!
Scarborough Lifeboat Station would like to place on record their grateful thanks for this phenomenal fund raising effort.

Lifeboat Coxswain Retires
On 4th April 2003 Richard Constantine our Coxswain / Mechanic retires after 20 years service to the RNLI in Scarborough.

Talking to Richard he says that the time has gone in a flash and he has enjoyed being part of the team.
He was born in Scarborough and attended the Graham Sea Training School. On leaving school he went to work for Plaxtons who were a local company manufacturing coaches. He left there to go "fishing"!! He joined the crew of a local fishing boat and stayed there until he obtained the post of Station Mechanic at Scarborough Lifeboat Station.
In 1994 on the retirement of Coxswain Stuart Ogden Richard was appointed Coxswain the position he held until his retirement.
Richard says that the support given by the local community is remarkable and thanks them for this and he hopes that this support will be given to his successors who are Tom Clark who takes over as Coxswain having formerly served as his deputy and Kevin Debenham who joins the Scarborough Station as Mechanic having previously served as a crew member on Whitby Lifeboat.
I asked Richard "is it all serious or do you have amusing moments"?
He replied that when it matters we are serious and totally committed to the job in hand but on occasions there are lighter moments.
Such as::?
Well on my first lifeboat day we took a man out who had won a competition and the prize was a trip out. The Lifeboat was heading back to the harbour and a group of yachts were leaving I asked him if he would like to steer the Lifeboat and he excitedly agreed. I told him to steer toward the lighthouse but he kept steering toward the yachts!! I asked him again and he said ok... still no change of course so I had to take over steering. He later advised me that he was Registered Blind!!
I asked Richard what is his best memory.
The naming ceremony for our present All Weather Lifeboat RNLB Fanny Victoria Wilkinson & Frank Stubbs when we all met the Duchess of Kent and my Grand Daughter presented her with a bouquet.
Your worst memory?
Ah that was when a lady was washed in to the sea trying to recover her dog, unfortunately we were unable to save her.
What next??
A holiday and then who knows!!
Thanks Richard for a good job well done.
